Work-It Wednesday: SSS Use What You Have #11

Hey everyone!

Happy Wednesday!! For today's Work-It Wednesday I am playing along with the Sweet Stamp Shop Use What You Have challenge #11

I have to tell you guys, I have been wanting to play along with this challenge since it started, but I've been hesitant. Why have I been hesitant you ask? The premise of the challenge is to use up your stash of crafty supplies that has just been sitting around. Awesome premise right? So why the hesitation? Well when I moved back to San Diego from San Francisco after my husband left me, I went from having a full ROOM for all of my crafty goodness, to renting a room in a small apartment with roommates. Now all of my crafty stuff must fit in these two bins I have under my bed. So, as you might imagine, I just don't have that much STUFF to use. The majority of my crafty goodies are all boxed up and stored for the time being. Hence, I've felt like I can't participate in this challenge. BUT this week, I decided WHAT the heck, I have SOME stuff, so I'll use it!

SO the "stash" I decided to use is my stash of embossing powders. I bought a whole set as well as big tubes of black and white, and so far I've only used the black ONCE. I figured it was time to put these babies to use. Here's my stash:

And here's what I came up with:

These gorgeous falling hearts are from the Sweet Stamp Shop Drops Background stamp set, and the sentiment is from the SSS Weird Love stamp set. Again I wrapped the card with a little bit of Totally White Trendy Twine, I just can't get enough of this stuff!!

Here is a close up of the sentiment. I LOVE this quote, my boyfriend and I find it very fitting for us, we're both a little weird, but it's out compatible weirdness that makes us work ;)

So hopefully you can tell that I used the red embossing powder for the hearts. I tried to emboss the sentiment as well but the little letters weren't coming out. But at least I cracked open a new color!

Alright sweet friends, that's all for today. I'll see you back here tomorrow for Throwback Thursday!

Tip-It Tuesday: Braided Chevron

Hey everyone!

Happy Tuesday!! For today's Tip-It Tuesday I am going to show you how to make the chevron background that I used on Saturday's card. It's just a real quick picture tutorial. Check it out:

First you will need to cut two 1/2 inch strips of each color you are using. The length of these strips will depend on how long you want your finished chevron to be.

Next you will want to glue two of your strips of the same color together in a right angle, and glue one of your strips of the other color right next to the strip on the left. Like so:

See how the left blue strip is on top and I glued the white strip right next to it?

Now you want to glue your last strip on top of all of these, right next to your strip on the right. Like so:

Now we're going to braid. You will grab the strip that is the farthest to the right and fold it over like so:

And then the one on the left:

And then you will simply continue until you've reached your desired length:

Pretty simple, no? It may not seem like it at first but once you do it you'll be flying through them like it's nothing!

So are you ready to see another card using this fun technique? Here's what I created:

Isn't this stamp adorable? I used the Unity Stamp Company "I'm Here" Itty Bitty. And of course I wrapped my card with a little bit of Totally White Trendy Twine.

Alright sweet friends, that's all for today. I'll see you back here tomorrow for Work-It Wednesday :D

Make-It Monday: Amazing Friend

Hey everyone!

Happy Monday :) For today's Make-It Monday I wanted to share a card I made for my sweet friend Belinda of Bee's Hive O'Drama. During my most recent trip to Michael's I found a little something that just screamed Bee to me, so of course I grabbed it, and I can't send a gift without a card can I? I also decided to play along with Dahlhouse Design's Wanna Sketch #7.

Here is the sketch:

And here is what I came up with:

I stamped the chevron background using Lawn Fawn's Chevron Backdrops. And this super sweet sentiment stamp is from Unity Stamp Company's Everything Wonderful sentiment kit (which is on sale through TODAY!). I colored in the stamp using my copics.

Before I go...

I wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to vote for the Unity Creative Contest!!

Throwback Thursday: Unity Creative Contest Take Two

Hey everyone!

Happy Thursday!! Today I couldn't resist giving the Unity Creative/Color Contest another shot! The idea of winning a guest design spot at Unity is HUGE, so you know I'm gunna keep on trying ;)

So first up, here's my Throwback card from March 2012:

And here is what I came up with:

For the background of this card I used my Any Color Glimmer Mist technique. I added a little bit of Stickles to the flowers and leaves to tie them in to the glittery background. I added a tiny touch of Totally White Trendy Twine as well.

Again, you can grab this gorgeous image HERE and play along with the Unity challenge as well!

Alright sweet friends, see you back here tomorrow for FREEBIE Friday!

Tip-It Tuesday: A Follow-Up

Hey everyone!

Happy Tuesday!! I am SO sorry, I don't have a new tip for you today :( Being on vacation with the family is finally catching up with me (blogwise anyway), and unfortunately I seem to have caught a bug and I've been feeling pretty sick the last couple of days. I had been fighting it but yesterday I finally accepted that I was sick, so I've fallen a little behind. BUT I would HATE to disappoint you guys, so I hope you will accept this tip follow up in place of my regular tip!

Remember last week's tip about stamping on pottery?

Are you ready to see the finished product??

Check it out!!

I LOVE how this turned out! It looks just like I hand painted the adorable phrases, but if I actually had you wouldn't be able to read them, lol. And I think the ice cream scoop in the bottom is just TOO cute! In case you forgot, these adorable stamps are from the Sweet Stamp Shop Cool Scoop stamp set (which is on clearance right now!).

Alright sweet friends, I hope you enjoyed this little project. I WILL be back for Work-It Wednesday tomorrow, PROMISE!

AND I will make sure to do an EXTRA good tip for you next week!

Make-It Monday: RIC #40 Take Two

Hey everyone!

Happy Monday! And welcome to another Make-It Monday :D I didn't have anything specific on my card making to-do list this week, and I wasn't too ecstatic about my entry to the Runway Inspired Challenge #40 last week, so I decided to take another stab at it. I did warn you that I had more ideas swimming around in my head for this one ;)

Here's the inspiration for you again:

And here is my second go:

I used my alcohol inks to make the splattered background, and I used black embossing powder for this sweet sentiment stamp from Unity Stamp Company.

Unfortunately I don't think you can see the embossing in the pictures. I take all of my pictures with my iPad because I don't have a camera, but it might be about time to change that. I can't have you guys missing out on awesome details!

You might be wondering how I did the splatter while leaving a completely clean space for the sentiment. Check it out:

Simple masking by taping another piece of cardstock where I wanted my sentiment to go.

Splatter away, then remove the extra cardstock and ta-da! Perfect stamping spot.

You might notice that the splatter on my final card is different than the splatter in my masking pictures. That's because my final card was actually my second try. Since I am on vacation I don't have all my supplies with me, including my heat gun. So I got creative and tried to set the embossing powder with a lighter... Yep.. I burned my first card. Oops.

But hey, I actually like the splatter pattern on the second try better :)

Alright sweet friends, I'll see you back here tomorrow for Tip-It Tuesday!!

Scrap Box Saturday: How Lucky Am I

Hey everyone!

Happy Saturday! Today is our LAST full day in beautiful Lake Tahoe :( Boo. BUT it has been a FABULOUS week, and the fun isn't over yet! We've still got another week that we'll be spending in Reno before returning home :D

Vacation or not it's time for another Scrap Box Saturday!

Remember these scraps?

Yep, I reached for them once again!

I had seen this awesome idea on Pinterest FOREVER ago and I hadn't gotten around to trying it, until today!

I started out by picking the scraps I wanted to use. Then I cut them into 1/4" strips:

Then I cut a 5 1/4" by 4" piece of cardstock to use as the base (this was also a scrap! I cut it from a card base I had previously cut and stamped on but messed up). Then I applied ATG adhesive to the base and laid out the strips in a pattern:

Once I had all the strips laid out and adhered down I trimmed the long strips:

And TA-DA! And adorable background for ANY card, and a GREAT way to use up my scraps!!
Isn't it pretty? And this can be done with ANY scrap, the littler pieces work great in the corners :)

Check out what I created:

This ADORABLE stamp is the Unity Stamp Company Saying GOOD-BYE is so HARD Itty Bitty. And I wrapped the base with some yummy Totally Kraft Trendy Twine.

Alright sweet friends, I hope you have an AMAZING weekend!!
